365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas: ‘Curtain Up’ on the 365 winning ideas for 2009
Berlin, 20.11.2008 – The 365 winners of the 2009 ‘365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas’ contest are in. From January 1st to December 31st 2009, each day a spotlight will be shone on one of the winners, who will present their innovative ideas to the public with an original event on that day.
Since 2006, the ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ initiative has partnered with Deutsche Bank to run the contest, whose patron is Germany’s Federal President Horst Köhler. Thus, each year has seen a further expansion of the nationwide network of ‘Selected Landmarks’, whose creativity, expertise and passion make Germany the Land of Ideas.
From the more than 2,000 applications received from companies, research institutes, art and cultural institutions, community and charity projects and initiatives, a panel of 18 judges chaired by Prof. Martin Roth, General Director of the State Art Collections in Dresden, and Prof. Michael Hüther, Director of the Institute of the German Economy in Cologne, picked the winners in seven categories. As ambassadors for the Land of Ideas, they demonstrate the multifaceted potential of Germany as a place of innovation.
A ‘travel guide’ to accompany the contest, ‘365 Orte – Eine Reise zu den besten Ideen Deutschlands’ (365 Landmarks – A Journey to the Best Ideas in Germany) will be published by DuMont and will be available in German bookstores from January 2009.
